This is the first big scale analysis of the inner tourism in Georgia and has a great importance for the representatives of the tourism business in order to work out proper market strategies. The analysis was made by BCG social research group which was hired by the Department of tourism and Resorts. The research lasted for 6 weeks (November 4, 2009 – December 16) and 1000 families were interviewed (3382 respondents.) The tendencies of inner tourism market were revealed. The Deputy Head of the department Beka Jakheli said that the research showed a few interesting tendencies for the development of the inner tourism market.
Particularly in 2010 the flow of tourists grew both in the winter resorts as well as summer resorts. Moreover there is more demand for thematic and short tours – cultural, adventurous, religious etc. The number of wishers to see the historical sites of the country is also growing. The most active period for Georgian tourism is the period between August and October. 25% of the population prefers sea resorts, 20% prefers mountain resorts. As a result the research showed that inner tourism is a growing segment which will become comparably popular in 2010 than before. Â
