Presentation of Svaneti as a skiing resort and Anaklia as a sea resort was held in Bakuriani on January 18. The President of Georgia introduced the perspectives of these resorts to the Georgian people together with the members of the government – Prime Minister Nika Gilauri, Minister of Economic Development of Georgia Zurab Pololikashvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure David Tkeshelashvili and Minister of Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resource Goga Khachidze attended the presentation. The event was organized by the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia and representatives of the business sector and media also attended the event.Â
It was mentioned during the presentation that Mestia and Anaklia should be constructed as a skiing and sea resort respectively. These resorts have big perspective and potential and working on the development of corresponding infrastructure has already started. Senaki-Mestia road will be rehabilitated in 2010which will allow the functioning of a unique summer touristic product - combination of resting both by the sea and skiing. President Saakashvili said that Georgia has a great touristic potential due to its unique nature and most of the countries don’t have such possibilities. The President also predicted the growth of tourists parallel to the development of the infrastructure. Mikheil Saakashvili urged the members of the government including the Minister of Economic Development to be more active in attracting more investments. The President also mentioned that the development of the tourism infrastructure will create around 10 thousand jobs.
The Minister of Economic Development Zurab Pololikashvili said that tourism can play a large role in the development of the economy of the country. He thinks that the combined tourism products will be quite interesting and important, since there are only several ski resorts in the whole world that function in the summer and Ushba ski resort will also be one of them.
