Natia Turnava Met Owners of Small Hotels and Guest Houses in Imereti Region

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnava met with the owners of small hotels and guest houses in Kutaisi and the Imereti Region. According to the Minister, the purpose of the meeting in Kutaisi was to get familiar with the needs of the local tourism businesses to summarize the results of the meetings held in different regions and develop further action plan.

“Since the tourism industry has faced a great challenge, I personally as well as our entire team, following the recommendation of the Prime Minister, visit the regions and meet the representatives of the sector, especially those engaged in tourist attractions, which are under the biggest risk. The tourism industry expected a million Russian tourists by the end of the year and now it is not clear if they arrive,” – Natia Turnava said.

“We have identified three main requests that the business representatives have. The first and uppermost request is the stabilization of the situation and the peace – it should be once again promoted that Georgia was, is now and will be the safest place for the tourist arriving in the country. The second request considers the financial difficulties due to the bank loans that the businesses took in order to expand their operations in line with increased number of tourists. The third request by the sector representatives is to maintain the inflow of the Russian tourist in line with the diversification of the market,” –  Natia Turnava noted.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said that these three directions are the task that comes from the tourism industry, small hotels, tour operators and ordinary people and the Government, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development is actively working on the solutions.
