First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili participated at ‘Welcome to Georgia’ National Tourism Awards official ceremony where the winners of the 20 different nominations were announced.
First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili welcomed the organizers of the event, the nominees and the invited guests and expressed gratefulness to the representatives of the tourism sector for their activity and contribution in the development of the field.
“When we launched ‘Welcome to Georgia!”, we decided that the Minister of Economy, being the curator of the sector, would have the privilege to choose the winner of one, personal nomination – for special contribution to the development of the tourism sector” – Dimitry Kumsishvili stated and the handled the award for the special contribution to the development of the tourism sector to the former Head of the Georgia’s Tourism Department (in 2004-2007) and the founder of the Caucasus Travel, Saba Kiknadze.
‘Welcome to Georgia!’ National Tourism Awards is the only awards ceremony in Georgia for the field of tourism and hospitality since 2015. The Award is co-organized by the National Tourism Administration of Georgia of the Ministry of Economics and Sustainable Development of Georgia and is supported by the Tbilisi City Hall. The main mission of the project is to encourage tourism and hospitality industry in Georgia and promote the awareness of the high-achieving tourism business and brands that create a positive image of the country worldwide.
Over 320 nominees participated in Welcome to Georgia 2017. The nominees represented the companies operating in the tourism and hospitality sectors from every region of Georgia including such sub-sectors as hotels, tourist agencies, events and festivals, restaurants and cafes, wine companies, photographers, etc.
