Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, met with Petra Ponevács-Pana, the newly appointed Ambassador of Hungary to Georgia. The Minister congratulated the Ambassador on her new appointment and wished her success.
Economic cooperation was discussed at the meeting in both bilateral and multilateral formats. Priority areas such as bilateral trade, transport and logistics, energy, tourism, civil aviation, communications, information technologies, and others were highlighted.
The parties agreed to continue active cooperation to further deepen Georgia-Hungary relations.
At the meeting, the Minister expressed hope that Hungary would be represented by a high-level delegation at the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, which will be held this year on October 22-23.
Trade turnover between Georgia and Hungary increased by 14% in 2024, and it is noteworthy that export growth accounted for 93% of this. The trade turnover between the two countries also increased by 19% according to the data for January-August 2025. In addition, the tourism growth statistics, which have great potential for further improvement, should be emphasized. In this regard, the successful operation of the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air in Georgia is very important—the airline currently operates with four aircraft based at Kutaisi International Airport, and negotiations are underway regarding the addition of a fifth based aircraft.
