Within the frames of the official visit to the People’s Republic of China, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Natia Turnava had a meeting with the representatives of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products.
The organization is one of the largest industrial unions, bringing together several thousand Chinese companies.
Georgian side introduced the mechanisms of supporting foreign, including Chinese investors in Georgia. It was noted that those companies that start production on the territory of Georgia and employ local population, could take advantage of the Free Trade Agreements that Georgia has with different countries, including the EU member states, and export their products to those countries.
“At the meeting with the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, it was expressed the readiness to establish at least five new enterprises on the territory of Georgia. These companies will manufacture and assemble machinery in Georgia and export to the EU and other countries,” – Natia Turnava said.
According to the Minister, it is about the investments that are primarily focused on the employment. As the Minister noted, it is precisely the industrial sector, the heavy industry is the sector that provides many jobs.
“We introduced the support mechanisms we have, including the Free Industrial Zones. At the same time, we are ready to talk about creating additional Free Industrial Zones if they are to be major investment destinations. This is about a few hundred millions. We are delighted that certain talks have taken place and several companies are ready to start negotiations on bringing production to Georgia and launching new ones in the nearest future, recognizing the benefits our market and economic policy offers to investors,” – Natia Turnava said.
