Within the frames of the 32nd Session of UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy Geneva (Switzerland), First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze held a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the UNECE, Tatiana Molcean.
Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN Office and other International Organizations, Alexander Maisuradze also attended the meeting.
Productive cooperation of Georgia with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in the direction of sustainable energy was discussed at the meeting. It was noted that cooperation will continue on such important issues as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening sustainable energy systems, improving energy efficiency, digitalization of the sector, etc. Special emphasis was placed on cooperation in the direction of strengthening of the energy security.
Romeo Mikautadze introduced the current trends in the energy sector of Georgia to the Executive Secretary of UNECE, and provided information about current and planned energy infrastructure projects and other priority directions. Special emphasis was placed on the Black Sea Submarine Power Cable Project and its importance in terms of diversifying the supply of energy resources in Europe, as well as increasing energy security in Georgia and the South Caucasus as a whole, and stimulating the development of green energy in the region.
The parties also stressed on the significance of digitalization and use of modern technologies in terms of the UNECE Platform on Resilient Energy Systems, which is based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) since the platform will be instrumental in enhancing capacity building among member states and removing barriers to accessing data and information on resilient energy systems.
