First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, together with the Head of the Government of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze, got acquainted with the ongoing gasification works in Khulo, Adjara. The total length of the gas pipeline under construction in Khulo townlet is to be 6426 meters and it will provide gas supply to 363 local residents. The Georgian Gas Transportation Company carries out the infrastructural construction of the gas pipeline following the decision of the Government of Georgia.

General Director of the Georgian Gas Transportation Company, Mikheil Shalamberidze, the Head of Gasification Service of the company, Kakha Dvali and the Mayor of Khulo Municipality, Vakhtang Beridze, also examined the gasification process in Khulo townlet.

According to the First Deputy Minister, natural gas has never been supplied to Khulo and in general, to the mountainous Adjara until now. “This project will significantly improve the economic and social conditions of the population of the region, contribute to the development of tourism and other types of businesses, especially to the micro and small entrepreneurship. Winter in mountainous Adjara is harsh. After the completion of the gasification project, the residents of this area will be able to use gas for heating, which, in turn, will have a positive effect on the ecological situation,” – Romeo Mikautadze said.

Currently, in the Adjara region, gasification works are underway in 13 settlements of 4 municipalities, after completion of which 1535 subscribers will be able to use natural gas.

As part of the 2022-2024 gasification plan approved by the Government, construction works necessary for the gasification of 35 settlements in Adjara will give 3 696 potential subscribers the opportunity to join the common natural gas network. It should be noted that within the framework of the large-scale gasification project of the regions of Georgia, in 2019-2021, over 80 000 families were given the opportunity to be connected to the natural gas supply network. During the works to be carried out in accordance with the three-year plan, up to 40 000 more families will receive access to the natural gas supply. By 2024, it is expected that 93% Georgia’s population will be included in the natural gas supply network.
