On September 24, Kutaisi Davit Agmashenebeli International Airport hosted its millionth passenger for the first time in a year. “We were very proud and happy when the millionth passenger of our airport mentioned that he decided to travel to Georgia after reading many articles about our country. This emphasizes the fact that the awareness of Georgia at the German tourist market is increasing,” – Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.

According to Deputy Minister, the Government of Georgia is making great efforts to further develop the second largest airport in Georgia. Kvrivishvili drew attention to the planned large-scale infrastructure project at the airport, which will result in new runway with a total length of 3,5km, giving the Kutaisi Airport an opportunity to receive all sizes of aircrafts and increase passenger flow.

Mariam Kvrivishvili noted that the work is underway on the updated development plan of Kutaisi International Airport. “We are also carrying out terminal works to improve services for international travellers as well as our citizens who use Kutaisi Airport. Most importantly, we continue to negotiate with international airlines to have more direct flights to strategic target countries, especially European countries. As you know, Kutaisi International Airport operates the largest number of direct flights to Europe,” – Deputy Minister added.

It should be noted that each passenger upon entering the terminal, passed through a tunnel of screens created with special content, where they heard information about the importance of the historic flight for Kutaisi Airport, as well as the hospitality of Imereti Region of Georgia. The main part of the event took place in the baggage claim area, where the millionth passenger was revealed: a specially branded suitcase for the millionth passenger - German Peter Goetzinger - appeared on the baggage belt, in which various gifts were placed.
