First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development celebrated the Day of the Energy Specialists of Georgia together with the representatives of the field. The event was held in the space of the Teleti 220 substation. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze addressed the audience with the welcoming speech. The Prime Minister and the First Vice Prime Minister congratulated the employees of the energy sector and the honored energy workers on their professional day and thanked them for the great work and contribution they made to the development of the most important sector for the country.

Energy Specialist’s day is celebrated in Georgia for the twenty-second time. Speaking at the event, the First Vice Prime Minister introduced in detail the growth and the development dynamics of the sector, ongoing as well as planned reforms and programs.

“The number of generation facilities in Georgia as well as the installed capacity and the amount of generated electricity increases annually. We strengthen our energy independence, energy security more and more on a day-to-day basis, thus, of course, we strengthen not only the energy sector, but also the solid foundation for the future of our country to be more sustainable and the economic progress of our country to be more solid. In the coming years, we will continue the state policy of active support in order to further strengthen our energy independence and make it a long-term, predictable environment both for investors in the sector and for entities from various branches of the economy,” – Levan Davitashvili said.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development emphasized the support scheme developed for investing in the energy sector of the state. According to Davitashvili, an important decision was made to support investors in the field of energy in order to speed up the process, in the form of direct negotiations, at a competitive price already established in the auctions. “This is an important process that will allow us to speed up the process of investing in the energy sector and to get the results of the ambitious plan that the Prime Minister also mentioned - to be a net-exporting country by 2030 with generation exceeding consumption,” – Levan Davitashvili said.

In addition to the construction of generating facilities, another important direction that the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development is actively working on is the development of energy infrastructure. As Davitashvili noted, this approach concerns the infrastructure within the country as well as the construction and development of power transmission lines connecting neighboring countries. Levan Davitashvili particularly focused on the strategic importance of the Black Sea Submarine Electric Cable Project for Georgia.

“This is a completely new word in our reality, when we can directly connect the Georgian electricity system to one of the most attractive European markets through the Black Sea, which, of course, will further strengthen the competitiveness of the Georgian energy sector. This is an ambitious, multi-billion investment project, however, we are making great progress in the process of working on it, especially this year. Achievements in the oil and gas sector are also important - international tenders have already been launched to attract investments in new license blocks, which, in turn, will increase investments in this direction. The South Caucasus Pipeline remains one of the important transit infrastructures that supplies natural gas from the Caspian region to the EU countries. Georgia has the most important role in terms of ensuring Europe’s energy independence and energy security, and here too the transit volumes are increasing, therefore, the economic benefits received by Georgia is also increasing,” – Levan Davitashvili said.

Traditionally, a detailed presentation of the current situation and statistical data in the field was held, which was presented by Jubo Turashvili, the Head of the Department of Energy Policy and Investment Projects of the Ministry of Economy. According to the presentation, 63 hydroelectric power stations were built in Georgia in 2013-2024, with the total installed capacity of 773 MW. In addition, in 2024-2025, it is planned to complete the construction of additional 16 HPPs, with the total installed capacity of approximately 150 MW.

The event dedicated to the Day of the Energy Specialist of Georgia ended with the awarding ceremony – 46 honored energy workers, including former employee’s, were awarded with certificates and symbolic gifts.
