Levan Davitashvili Invited Chinese Energy Company to Cooperate with Georgia’s Energy Sector

First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili met with the leaders of China Huadian Corporation, one of the largest state corporations producing electricity in China.

The parties discussed existing relations between Georgia and China in the energy sector. It was noted that Georgia, which has a large resource of renewable energy sources, is interested in cooperating with Chinese energy companies. According to the First Vice Prime Minister, energy is one of the most attractive fields for international and local investors and therefore, both the number of generation facilities and the installed capacity, as well as the amount of generated electricity, are increasing in the country every year.

Levan Davitashvili noted that the strength of the energy sector is the basis of the development of any country’s economy. Thus, the government is interested in both the development of sustainable energy and the introduction of new technologies in the field.

Large energy projects, including hydro, wind and solar power plants, which are planned to be implemented in Georgia were discussed at the meeting as well as the prospect of involving the Chinese corporation in this process.

China Huadian Corporation is a leader company in China with a growing portfolio of wind, solar, hydropower and biomass energy projects. The company is actively working on the development of renewable energy technologies. It has also been reported that the Chinese corporation is interested in investing in energy infrastructure projects outside China.

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Genadi Arveladze and Irakli Nadareishvili, as well as Ambassador of Georgia to the People’s Republic of China, Paata Kalandadze, also attended the meeting.
