First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov. Georgian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Nikoloz Laliashvili also attended the meeting held within the framework of the visit of the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia to Kazakhstan.
Levan Davitashvili and Olzhas Bektenov focused on partnership relations between Georgia and Kazakhstan. At the same time, the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia thanked the Prime Minister for Kazakhstan’s support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
The parties discussed a wide range of trade and economic relations between the two countries, as well as issues related to regional transport and infrastructure. Special attention was focused on such priority areas as bilateral trade, transport and logistics, energy, information technologies, connectivity, civil aviation, tourism, investments, etc. The importance of Trans-Caspian transport-logistics projects, including further development of the Middle Corridor and cooperation in this process, was given a particular emphasis.
As it was highlighted, the trade turnover between the countries has been characterized by increasing dynamics during the recent years - in 2023, it was increased by 168% compared to the data of the previous year. In addition, it was emphasized that the trade potential is much greater. The parties also positively evaluated cooperation in the field of tourism since in 2023, Kazakhstan is in the top ten countries in terms of international visitors to Georgia, and this positive dynamic continued in the first half of 2024.
Another issue of discussion between the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan was the decisions made by the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan and the importance of their implementation. It should be noted that the next plenary session of the Commission will be held on September 20 in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, under the co-chairmanship of the First Vice Prime Minister, Levan Davitashvili.
