Memorandum of Understanding on Development of Green Hydrogen was signed between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, JSC Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Batumi Municipality City Hall and German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW).
The Memorandum confirms the intention of the parties to jointly develop the green hydrogen pilot plant and its full value chain (including supply and demand).
According to First Deputy Minister of Economy, Romeo Mikautadze, Georgian Government pays special attention to the prospects of hydrogen energy development in Georgia.
“In this direction, the Ministry of Economy is working very actively together with relevant sub-agencies, and the pilot project is a good example of this active work and mutual cooperation. We signed the Memorandum for this purpose. I think that the development of ecological hydrogen energy in our country has a good foundation, and this direction will play an important role in ensuring energy security of Georgia, which is one of our priority tasks,” – Romeo Mikautadze commented.
First Deputy Minister noted that in the first stage of the project, it is planned to carry out appropriate feasibility and other necessary studies with the financing of the German side.
“In the study confirms the feasibility of the project, the next stage envisages the construction of a green hydrogen generation station and, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the supply of green hydrogen produced by the station will be spread in the Batumi municipality. This is a pilot project, the successful implementation of which will make a significant contribution to the development of ecological hydrogen energy in Georgia,” – Romeo Mikautadze said.
