First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze met with the representatives of the companies and business associations of the construction and development sector.

First Deputy Minister made a presentation about the minimum requirements of energy efficiency and the procedures for their implementation, which was followed by the interactive discussion. Representatives of the Tbilisi City Hall, international consulting company Gopa-intec and Georgian Business Association answered the questions of the audience.

“Enacting the minimum energy efficiency requirements will have a positive impact both on the reduction of harmful effects on the environment and on the socio-economic situation. An energy-efficient building maintains inside temperature for a long time and uses approximately 40% less energy to heat or cool it. Consequently, the costs related to heating in winter and cooling in summer are significantly reduced,” – Mikautadze noted.

From July 1, 2023, the minimum energy efficiency requirements for buildings, parts of buildings or elements of buildings will come into effect in Georgia and all the new construction project will be able to receive a construction permit only when confirming those requirements is established. The authors of the project will be able to make the declaration through the online platform. The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, within the framework of the EU technical assistance, conducts trainings for construction engineers in order to make it easier for them to make declarations. Up to 300 architects have already been trained within the framework of the innovation, and in the near future up to 3 500 specialists will undergo similar training as well.

Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, within the framework of the Georgian Energy Sector Reform Program, with the support of the European Union and the German Reconstruction Credit Bank and in cooperation with the international consulting company Gopa-intec, ensures the development of energy legislation in terms of renewable energies, energy market and energy efficiency.
