According to the data of the two quarters of 2024, over 3 million international travelers visited Georgia, which is by 5,6% higher number compared to the same period of 2023. In the period of January-June, 2 123 816 international tourist visits were made - compared to 2023, the increase is 10%.
Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy, stated that as a result of the correct, consistent policy, the tourism industry continues to develop sustainably, and it is especially significant that the government's diversification policy is reflected in the data of the second quarter - in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023, a significant increase is recorded in the number of international travelers (4,2% increase), as well as in terms of international tourist visits (9,2% increase).
"We have a special growth in terms of tourists coming from European countries, including the Great Britain, Germany is also particularly prominent, from which more than 30% of tourist visits were made, the Gulf countries are also leading, and of course, all of this jointly serves to the strengthening of the tourism industry of our country. The mentioned countries are distinguished by the tourists with high purchasing power, which has a positive effect on the growth of incomes from tourism," – Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
Thee Deputy Minister also stated that along with the tourism, the Government of Georgia cares about stimulating direct flights, so that Georgia has more direct flights with strategically important countries, which is reflected in the introduction of new airlines, the opening of new flights, the execution of more frequencies, and all this is expressed in numbers, in record passenger flow indicators – in the first 6 months of the current year, Georgian airports served 3 204 833 passengers and 14 127 flights, and compared to the January-June of 2023, the increase in passenger flow is 30%, and the increase in air flights is 33%. It should be noted that the passenger flow in the two quarters of this year is by 29% higher than the number of passengers received before the pandemic, in the January-June 2019, and the number of flights has increased by 20%. According to the data of the second quarter, 25% (1 426 499 passengers) and 31% (6 075) increases in the number of flights will be recorded in 2024.
"The Government of Georgia continues to strengthen the tourism and aviation sector, we have many ongoing and planned marketing campaigns to increase the awareness of our country internationally, to attract more international travelers and to ensure that the positive effects of the tourism industry are equally distributed to all regions, towns and villages of our country, so that more people receive economic benefits from the tourism," – Mariam Kvrivishvili commented.
