Belgian Company Jan De Nul Selected as Winner of Tender for Design/Construction of Marine Infrastructure of Anaklia Deep Sea Port
Belgian company Jan De Nul was announced as a winner of the international tender announced for the provision of construction works of the marine infrastructure of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. The company was selected out of so called “big four”. After the completion of the negotiations, one of the largest European companies in the world will carry out work on the deepening of the harbor water area and the construction of a breakwater (piers) in Anaklia.
- The tender commission selected the best out of the bests. Three out of four companies participated in the tender. All of them are European and have the best international reputation in this activity. Companies invited to the tender own 80% of the world's dredging fleet. The Belgian company "Jan de Null" was founded in 1938 and its turnover is 2,5 billion euros, it employs over 7000 people. The company was actively involved in the Panama Canal expansion project, in addition, it has implemented or is implementing projects in various regions of the world, including Europe, the Gulf, Africa, and others.
- Anaklia Deep Sea Port will be the “business card” of our country, which should connect the transport systems of Europe and Asia. Thus, for its construction and development, the Government of Georgia will cooperate only with highly reputable companies and financial institutions. A clear example of this is the Belgian company Jan de Null, which the commission on tender considered to be the best with the involvement of international consultants and has already sent an invitation to start contract negotiations/sign the contract.
- The Anaklia Deep Sea Port is a strategic project of our country. Through it, Georgia should strengthen its geostrategic function – to connect the transport systems of Europe and Asia, to serve the cargo flow in the Middle Corridor, which is the shortest and safest road between the West and the East today. The port of Anaklia will be able to significantly develop the economy of Georgia, attract international investments and create thousands of new jobs. Moreover, the successful operation of the port of Anaklia will be aimed at increasing the competitiveness not only of Georgia, but also of other countries of the Middle Corridor.
In 2029, the country will be able to receive the first ships in the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and increase the cargo flow through the transport and logistics infrastructure of Georgia. The capacity of the port at the first phase will be 600 000 containers per year, and the indicative cost is 600 million USD. It is also planned to create a free industrial zone near the port, which will generate additional jobs and attract more investments.
