Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze met with the delegation of the Government of Sichuan Province of the People's Republic of China.
Givi Zedelashvili, the Head of the Department of Trade Development and International Economic Relations of the Ministry, also attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on the importance of strategic cooperation between Georgia and the People's Republic of China. The relations between the countries on both bilateral and global platforms were especially emphasized.
The conversation covered the deepening of the relations in various sectors of the economy, including bilateral trade, investments, tourism, transport, logistics, information technology, etc. It was noted that the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement with China made a significant contribution to strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.
Emphasis was also placed on the deepening cooperation in the tourism and civil aviation sectors. It was noted that the establishment of a visa-free regime between the countries increased the number of visitors between China and Georgia - according to statistics, according to the data of the two quarters of 2024, the number of visitors from China was increased by 160% compared to the same period of the previous year. It was said that China is one of the main target tourist markets for Georgia and that Georgia is interested in diversification of direct flights and destinations with China, which will increase the tourist flows between the countries.
Participants focused attention on deepening cooperation between the countries in the direction of joint promotion of the Middle Corridor, which will increase the competitiveness of this transport corridor. Attention was focused on the recent visit of the First Vice Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy to China, when the "Memorandum of Understanding on Development of Transport Corridors for China-Europe Railway Express, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route – Middle Corridor" was signed.
The meeting also discussed prospects of cooperation in renewable energy, information technology, investment attraction and other sectors.
