“I congratulate Mr. Mikheil on his selection as President. I would like to wish him success in his new role for the benefit of our country, for the protection of our country's interests. Of course, we all expect that he will honorably fulfill the duties assigned to the President of Georgia by the legislation and the Constitution. He is a worthy, patriotic person and we are confident in this,” – the First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said.
Levan Davitashvili participated in the inauguration ceremony of the 6th President of Georgia held in the Parliament of Georgia.
The First Vice Prime Minister commented on the ongoing processes in the country. As Davitashvili noted, this can be given an unambiguous assessment - the majority of the Georgian population expressed a very clear decision, support for the current government of Georgia. In addition, Levan Davitashvili emphasizes that the parliamentary elections were held in a competitive environment and their assessment by the OSCE/ODIHR was absolutely adequate.
“As a result, a new government was formed, a new authority, in accordance with the Constitution of Georgia, we elected a president and the president was inaugurated. This is reality. The second reality is what certain opponents are talking about, it is natural that certain groups of the opposition had their supporters and they have their own agenda, which, unfortunately, significantly differs from reality. They are contradicting reality, the reality is one - the majority of the population has made a decision, a choice has been made, and unfortunately, small groups of society and certain opposition parties are not adapting to this reality,” – the First Vice Prime Minister noted.
In addition, according to Levan Davitashvili's prediction, in 2025 the opposition parties will also accept the reality in the country. The Minister expresses hope that they will continue to oppose and fulfill their role in the parliamentary format.
“Their role is exactly this, the votes they received and the part of the people who expressed their trust in them - they should participate in political processes in accordance with the legislation and I think that the process will be absolutely civilized” - noted the First Vice Prime Minister.
