Direct flights on the Shanghai-Tbilisi route will commence on July 15. This decision was finalized during a meeting between the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and the leadership of the Chinese carrier China Eastern Airlines, held as part of the Minister’s visit to the People’s Republic of China.
China Eastern Airlines will operate regular flights on the Shanghai-Tbilisi-Shanghai air line with a frequency of 3 times per week.
Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the particular importance of establishing direct air links with China’s primary financial center, noting that this decision will further foster the development of business and economic ties between the two nations.
The Minister noted that the launch of direct flights is another demonstration of the high level of political and economic relations between the countries. Kvrivishvili assessed that this decision will strengthen people-to-people relations, economic ties, and Georgia’s tourism industry, while contributing to the generation of additional revenue.
The meeting also focused on Georgia’s status as an Official Partner Country at ITB China 2026, one of Asia’s most prestigious and large-scale tourism exhibitions. The event, scheduled for May 26-28 in Shanghai, will significantly contribute to promoting Georgia’s tourism potential.
