Functions of the Department of Trade Development and International Economic Relations:

  • Analyzing trade turnover with the Asia-Africa region and other countries, the European Union and other European countries, neighboring countries and other countries of the region, the United States of America and the countries of the American continent, and preparing relevant recommendations; working on Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs); maintaining consultative relations with business operators engaged in trade relations; identifying their needs and challenges and responding within the scope of competence; providing information services to business operators interested in trade, including the provision of information on trade preferences;
  • For the purpose of optimal utilization and expansion of the country’s export potential, studying and analyzing local markets of the Asia-Africa region and other countries, the European Union and other European countries, neighboring countries and other countries of the region, the United States of America and the countries of the American continent, and preparing relevant recommendations;
  • Assisting companies in establishing contacts with business operators in the Asia-Africa region and other countries, the European Union and other European countries, neighboring countries and other countries of the region, the United States of America and the countries of the American continent;
  • Collecting, recording, and categorizing information on exporters in the Asia-Africa region and other countries, the European Union and other European countries, neighboring countries and other countries of the region, the United States of America and the countries of the American continent, according to sector, size, and other necessary characteristics;
  • For the purpose of further improving the contractual framework and deepening bilateral trade and economic relations with the Asia-Africa region and other countries, the European Union and other European countries, neighboring countries and other countries of the region, the United States of America and the countries of the American continent, developing proposals and preparing conclusions; organizing meetings of bilateral intergovernmental economic commissions; preparing issues defined by the commission meeting protocols and subsequently monitoring their implementation;
  • Preparing materials on bilateral economic relations for mutual visits of delegations between Georgia and the Asia-Africa region and other countries, the European Union and other European countries, neighboring countries and other countries of the region, the United States of America and the countries of the American continent;
  • Within the scope of its competence, cooperating with the diplomatic corps, various ministries, and agencies;
  • Identifying opportunities for the development of relations with international and regional economic organizations on the basis of comparing requirements and actual parameters, and effectively managing such relations;
  • Preparing and submitting proposals to management regarding the realization of economic development opportunities and needs;
  • Planning and organizing meetings and conducting negotiations with representatives of international and regional economic organizations;
  • Identifying donor priorities;
  • Identifying project proposals within the competence of the Ministry and supporting them in accordance with donor priorities.
