Ongoing reforms in the energy sector of Georgia were discussed by the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Romeo Mikautadze, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai, at the meeting held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
Details of significant energy projects and ways of strengthening the country’s energy security within the framework of the consistent policy of the Georgian government were covered during the conversation. In this regard, James Appathurai emphasized the importance of the Black Sea submarine cable project and noted that its implementation is essential not only for the development of Georgia, but for the development of the whole South Caucasus.
Romeo Mikautadze also informed the guests about the results of the first auction announced within the support scheme for the production and use of energy from renewable sources. Mikaurtadze noted that the mentioned reform is being carried out very successfully, which will eventually create opportunities to invest over 2 billion dollars in the energy sector.
James Appathurai highlighted that Georgia has great energy potential and its resources allow for the increase of installed capacity, which is essential for the economic development of any country. The Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO expressed his support for the energy sector of Georgia and noted that he is always ready to promote the development of this important direction in Georgia within the limits of his own resources and competence.
