Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili  met with Sven Giegold, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action

Head of the Department of Trade Development and International Economic Relations of the Ministry, Givi Zedelashvili and the German Ambassador to Georgia Ernst Peter Fischer also attended the meeting.

Georgia-Germany economic relations and future development opportunities were discussed at the meeting. Attention was focused on cooperation in such sectors as trade, infrastructure, energy, transport, tourism, etc.

Bilateral government negotiations, which took place in Berlin on June 19-21, were given a positive evaluation. Special attention was paid to the development of “green hydrogen” technology in Georgia and the assistance of the German government in this regard. It was noted that Georgia has a significant potential for the spread of “green hydrogen”. The importance of implementing the Black Sea energy cable project connecting Georgia and the European Union was also emphasized.

Attention was also focused on the development of bilateral trade. It was noted that in 2022, the relevant indicator was increased by 23%, and exports – by 20%. This trend continued in 2023. According to this indicator, Germany is one of the major export markets to Georgia.

Participation of Georgia as a host country in the Berlin tourism exhibition ITB - 2023 was positively assessed. During the exhibition awareness of Georgia as a developed tourist destination countries significantly increased in Germany and European. It was said that the development of cooperation in the field of tourism will also be facilitated by the increase in the number of direct flights between Germany and Georgia.

At the end, Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili invited Sven Giegold and the leadership of the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Actions to participate in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum. Davitashvili expressed hope that Germany will be largely represented at the Forum.
