Levan Davitashvili at Georgia-Moldova Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation Held in Chișinău, Moldova

Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili participated in the session of the Georgia-Moldova Intergovernmental Economic Commission. Before the session, Vice Prime Minister of Georgia held a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dimitru Alaiba. 

The heads of the state economic agencies of Georgia and Moldova spoke about the issues related to trade and economic ties between the two countries and the deepening of sectoral relations in this regard. As it was mentioned during the meeting, there are complex perspectives of development and the realization of those capabilities will bring success to both countries.

Session of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission of the two countries was held for the second time after holding it in Tbilisi in 2017. This time, the meeting in Moldova was co-chaired by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dimitru Alaiba.

The commission is an important and effective platform for the development and deepening of economic relations between partner countries. Accordingly, negotiations were held within the commission and the parties outlined relevant decisions in the protocol in the direction of deepening cooperation in such areas as: bilateral economic, trade, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, energy, communications, culture, tourism etc. In the future, the relations between the two countries will include a wide range of cooperation and development opportunities in these sectors.

In addition, Vice Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized the international, geopolitical situation and the context within which Georgia and Moldova are working towards deepening economic relations - in particular, this is a common foreign-political aspiration, which implies joining the European Union.
“I hope that our countries will soon join the European family. Today’s meeting deepened our friendship and created new opportunities for future cooperation,” – Levan Davitashvili said.

At the session, the important contribution of the business environment to the economic development of each country was particularly highlighted. In addition, it was noted that foreign direct investments are vital for economic growth, and accordingly, both countries are interested in increasing the volume of investments to Georgia and Moldova. Levan Davitashvili informed his Moldovan colleague about the reliable, liberal business and investment environment in Georgia. Vice Prime Minister also spoke about economic growth and transport and infrastructure projects in Georgia. In addition, Levan Davitashvili invited the Moldovan delegation to the Silk Road Forum which is scheduled to be held in Tbilisi on 26-27 October, 2023.

Within the framework of the Georgia-Moldova Intergovernmental Economic Commission following documents were signed: Memorandum On cooperation in the economic, technical and scientific spheres between the Ministry of Environmental protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova and Memorandum of Understanding between the Invest Moldova Agency and LEPL Enterprise Georgia Agency, which shall serve to the enhancement of investment and export promotional activities between our two Countries.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Tengiz Nasaridze and Director of the Enterprise Georgia Agency Mikheil Khidureli participated in the work of the commission.
