Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili met with the Secretary General of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Michel Vion and international experts of the field.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Director of the Mountain Tracks Agency Irakli Burchuladze, President of the Georgian Ski Federation Zurab Kostava and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Silknet Company, Giorgi Ramishvili also attended the meeting.
Work implemented by the Georgian Government to develop the infrastructure of Georgian winter resorts was once again positively evaluated by the FIS. It was highlighted that the World Freestyle, Snowboard and Frisk Championships successfully held in Bakuriani this winter proved that Georgia has all the capabilities to host high-ranking international tournaments and is ready in every way to become an honorary member of the world calendar of winter tournaments.
Within the framework of the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Mountain Tracks Agency LLC, the Georgian Ski Federation and the International Ski Federation (FIS). The Memorandum aims at starting works on the project of four-season training bases/camps in Georgia, namely in Svaneti. At the first stage, the project envisages conducting feasibility studies with the involvement of the international as well as local experts.
It is noted that in March 2023, during the Freestyle, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in Bakuriani, the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili and the International Ski Federation President, Johan Eliasch expressed mutual interest in creating a four-season training camps, since Svaneti has the greatest potential to offer perfect training conditions to FIS in most disciplines.
The Memorandum was signed by the Director of the Mountain Tracks Agency, Irakli Burchuladze, the President of the Georgian Ski Federation, Zurab Kostava, and the Secretary General of the International Ski Federation, Michel Vion.
Within the framework of the visit to Georgia, the guests also visited Svaneti, where they viewed the relevant infrastructure and locations.
