First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili held the meeting with the Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates, Ahmed Bin Ali Al Sayegh.
Priority areas of trade and economic cooperation between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates was discussed at the meeting. It was noted that the rapprochement of economic relations between the countries was greatly influenced by the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement, which allows Georgian producers to export their products at a preferential rate.
Further development of cooperation in such sectors as tourism, energy, transport, logistics, etc. was also covered during the conversation.
Special attention was paid to Tbilisi Dry Port project, which is an extension of Batumi and Poti harbors and will connect the two ports and their logistics facilities. It was noted that the geopolitical situation created in the region has increased the demand for the Middle Corridor passing through Georgia, and such logistics projects as the Tbilisi Dry Port will help to attract additional cargoes to the new route.
Different indicator related to Tbilisi Dry Port project were also discussed by the parties including the annual capacity of the port, which is expected to be up to 200 000 TEU. It was highlighted that paving of the area as well as construction of the offices, Class B warehouse, mechanization center and the railway are already accomplished. The Dry Port will become operational in the fourth quarter of 2024.
At the end of the meeting, the Ministers once again emphasized the importance of further deepening of partnership between the two countries.
