Levan Davitashvili Congratulated Air Traffic Controllers on Professional Day
20-10-2024

"On October 20, the world annually celebrates the International Day of Air Traffic Controllers. Happy professional day to every air traffic controller employed by the LLC Sakaeronavigatsia of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development! The profession of an air traffic controller is considered as one of the most difficult jobs in the world since it requires enormous responsibility, constant concentration and the ability to make quick and correct decisions in critical situations – you ensure the safety of the flight and, therefore, of the people!".

Levan Davitashvili emphasizes that the professionalism and experience of air traffic controllers is necessary for the process of managing the complex air traffic network and, therefore, for the smooth operation of Georgian airports, for the safety of the country's aviation industry as a whole.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development highlighted that the profession of an air traffic controller in Georgia is becoming more and more important year after year and is directly proportional to the airspace load, the entry of new airlines into the country and the increase of the number of flights. He also emphasizes that the employees of the LLC Sakaeronavigatsia also serve transit flights moving in the airspace of Georgia.

"In Georgia, we have jobs where traditionally only professionals of the highest international class and qualifications are engaged. I am glad that the air traffic controllers of our country are in this category of professionals – the high qualification of each of you is recognized by the international organizations, ICAO and EUROCONTROL. Today, 53 airlines operate on the Georgian air market, and in January-September of this year, our airports served 5 686 748 passengers with regular and non-regular flights, which is by 26% more than the number of passengers received in the same period of 2023. But this is not only about the statistics and simply the numbers – it means that the role and workload of both the Sakaeronavigatsia in general and of you, each air traffic controller, have increased even more" – the text of the congratulation address states.

The First Vice Prime Minister noted that 118 air traffic controllers are currently serving the airspace of Georgia, and another 32 candidates are preparing to enter this profession.

Levan Davitashvili evaluated the work performed by the air traffic controllers as one of the most difficult jobs, highlighted that Georgian air traffic controllers are highly dignified professionals, thanked them for their service and wished them further success.
