Mariam Kvrivishvili Meets with Chinese Corporation Huawei Delegation

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with Gan Jianhua, a Chinese corporation Huawei President for the Middle East and Central Asia region.

Deputy Ministers Irakli Nadareishvili and Vakhtang Tsintsadze, the Head of Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency Avtandil Kasradze, as well as representatives of the Chinese corporation also attended the meeting.

Discussion focused on the development of the ICT sector in Georgia and Huawei’s involvement in this regard. It was noted that the Chinese corporation, which operates globally and collaborates effectively with the global ICT sector, has a strong interest in being more actively present in the Georgian market. Representatives of the corporation presented how they envision expanding business and cooperation in the fields of technology and innovation in Georgia.

Mariam Kvrivishvili introduced Huawei’s representatives to the government’s vision for opening a new technological hub in Kutaisi, which will be unique in the wider region and integrate various components. Specifically, an interactive scientific and technological museum, startup accelerators, an international IT school, a Georgian artificial intelligence development laboratory, a data center, and experimental laboratories for electronics, robotics, drones, IoT, STEAM, industrial innovations (fablab), and other experimental laboratories, conference and co-working spaces.

Huawei’s representatives expressed interest in the Kutaisi Technology Hub project.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of using Huawei technologies in Georgia’s energy sector.
