As part of her official visit to Azerbaijan, Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, held a meeting with Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the parties reaffirmed the good-neighborly and strategic partnership relations between the two countries.
Mariam Kvrivishvili thanked the Azerbaijani side for its support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
The parties discussed the importance of cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in various directions to ensure stability and development in the South Caucasus region. Particular attention was paid to bilateral and regional economic projects.
Strengthening of trade and economic relations between the countries was especially emphasized.
As noted at the meeting, cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in strategic projects will positively affect economic indicators. This includes attracting additional investments in sectors such as green energy, transport and logistics, information technology, communications, and others.
Special emphasis was placed on strategic projects such as the energy cable, which will contribute to deepening cooperation in the energy sector. The importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project was highlighted. It was noted that the project, which is in its final phase, will significantly increase the transit potential of both Georgia and Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working and take effective steps toward implementing new strategic projects that will contribute to the development of Georgia’s and Azerbaijan’s strategic infrastructure and increase connectivity between the two countries.
Cooperation in the field of tourism was also emphasized at the meeting. It was noted that Azerbaijan is a strategic tourism market for Georgia.
The meeting also addressed existing security challenges in the world and the region, for which the importance of peace and stability was highlighted as a means of overcoming them.
Georgia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, also attended the meeting.
