Low-cost airline Ajet is launching regular direct flights on the Ankara-Tbilisi-Ankara route. According to the application submitted to the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, flights will begin at the end of September with four weekly frequencies on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Ajet is a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, Turkey’s largest air carrier. The Civil Aviation Agency has already granted the airline the necessary permit to operate regular flights on the new route.

It is worth noting that the launch of direct flights between the capitals of Georgia and Turkey was discussed in July of this year during a meeting between Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines. Discussions also focused on the potential for further growth in air traffic and the opening of new air routes between the two countries.

Georgia has the most active air traffic with a neighboring country with Turkey. According to the data of the last year, over 1,2 million passengers were transported between the two countries, which accounted for 47% of the total passenger traffic between Georgia and its neighboring countries.

For the first seven months of 2025, a record number of over 20 000 international and domestic flights were operated at Georgian airports. The number of passenger and cargo flights (20 766) from January to July is 16% higher than the number of flights operated during the same period in 2024. As of today, flights are operated at all three international airports with approximately 745 frequencies per week. In the first seven months of 2025, a total of 4 601 048 passengers were transported through Georgian airports, which is 13% higher than the number of passengers received during the same period in 2024.
