14-11-2025

Largest Chinese airline, Air China, is launching regular air traffic between the capitals of Georgia and China. According to the application submitted to the LEPL Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, flights between Beijing and Tbilisi will be performed via Urumqi starting from December 2 of this year.

The start of direct traffic with the Chinese capital is a result of the Prime Minister of Georgia’s visit to the People’s Republic of China, during which, among other topical issues, the deepening of cooperation in the civil aviation sector was discussed. During the visit, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of the Air Silk Road. According to the memorandum, the parties expressed their readiness to promote the development of the “Air Silk Road,” which aims to establish air transport corridors based on liberal principles and by strengthening cooperation between the civil aviation sectors of the two countries.

Launching of direct air traffic between the two capitals will positively reflect on Georgia-China relations. Flights between Tbilisi and Beijing will be operated with twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday. The LEPL Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia issued the relevant permit to Air China today.

It is noteworthy that Air China entered the Georgian market in December 2024. As of today, the airline operates flights between Tbilisi and Urumqi with two frequencies per week and has transported 25035 passengers in the first 10 months of the current year.
