Mariam Kvrivishvili: Successful cooperation in the maritime sector between Georgia and Turkey has even greater potential for development

Coordination within the framework of cooperation with the UN International Maritime Organization, Black Sea security and stability, the development of ferry traffic between the two countries, and other important issues were discussed by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, at a meeting held in London. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Ministers Tamar Ioseliani and Durmuş Ünüvar.

At the bilateral meeting, held within the framework of the IMO Assembly, the parties highlighted the many directions of successful economic partnership between Georgia and Turkey, including the maritime sector, within which cooperation is very active and has even greater potential for development. The ministers spoke about opportunities for new ferry shipping routes and joint studies in this regard, which will promote tourism and deepen economic ties in general. The participants also discussed energy transition and maritime digitalization, maritime education and training, cooperation in hydrography, sharing experience in shipbuilding, and other issues that will give the maritime sectors of both countries even more opportunities to deepen cooperation and strengthen regional governance.

Mariam Kvrivishvili is in London with the delegation to participate in the 34th session of the UN International Maritime Organization Assembly. At the event, attended by representatives of more than 150 countries, Mariam Kvrivishvili will deliver a report and speak on trends in Georgia’s maritime sector, as well as current and planned reforms. Within the framework of the visit, a meeting will be held between the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez; bilateral meetings are also planned for Mariam Kvrivishvili with colleague ministers from several countries participating in the Assembly.

Natia Miminoshvili, Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, and Giorgi Archemashvili, Charge d’Affaires of Georgia to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative of Georgia to the IMO also attended the meeting between Mariam Kvrivishvili and Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
