Mariam Kvrivishvili and Minister of Transport of Singapore Discussed Importance of Middle Corridor Route in Terms of Trade and Economic Connectivity Between Regions

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, held a meeting with the Minister of Transport of Singapore, Jeffrey Siow. The meeting took place within the framework of the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London. The ministers of the two countries discussed prospects for cooperation in the transport sector, including the maritime sphere. Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani also participated in the meeting.

The increase in connectivity between regions and the existing prospects in this regard, as well as the importance of cooperation between the countries, were one of the main topics of discussion between the ministers. Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the significance of the Middle Corridor route for trade-economic connectivity and provided her Singaporean colleague with information on Georgia’s role and the work carried out in the process of its development.

“We had an interesting meeting with the Minister of Transport of Singapore. We discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of transport, and we talked about the issue of cooperation in the field of civil aviation, including the prospect of direct flights between Georgia and Singapore. I am glad that there is readiness for cooperation from both sides, including in other important directions such as transport logistics, port management, digitalization of the maritime sector, security systems, and others” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development provided Jeffrey Siow with information about the large-scale infrastructure projects currently underway in Georgia – the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the new Vaziani International Airport, and the modernization of the railway. It was noted that modern transport and logistics infrastructure will significantly facilitate the deepening of trade and economic ties between the countries.
