Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani met with Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting took place within the framework of the International Maritime Organization Assembly.
The parties discussed priority areas of relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the fields of maritime transport and logistics.
Special emphasis was placed on connecting the transit capabilities of Georgia’s Black Sea ports and the Middle Corridor with Saudi Arabia’s growing port and logistics ecosystem for the purpose of efficient cargo movement and the development of new routes. It was noted that Georgia is carrying out significant state investments in the development of its transport-logistics infrastructure, which will contribute to further increasing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor. Tamar Ioseliani highlighted the employment of Georgian seafarers in Saudi Arabian ship-owning companies and thanked the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for promoting this direction.
The Saudi Arabian side expressed interest in sharing experience with Georgia regarding the development of port logistics infrastructure, including the professional education and skills development of personnel employed in the maritime sector from Georgia in Saudi Arabian maritime schools, specifically in the areas of hydrography, port services, and logistics.
The parties discussed the support of joint training programs, trainings, and exchange projects; green and sustainable maritime development – the Blue Economy; protection of marine ecosystems; monitoring of sea level and climate change; as well as issues regarding the development of ecologically responsible port infrastructure.
