Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili summarized the results of her visit to the United Kingdom. Within the framework of the visit, the Minister delivered a speech at the session of the General Assembly of the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO), held important bilateral meetings with the IMO Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez, and colleague ministers of the countries participating in the Assembly.
“During the speech at the session, we had the opportunity to speak exhaustively about the most important large-scale projects that the Government of Georgia is implementing to further strengthen Georgia’s role, especially in the context of the Middle Corridor. Special emphasis was placed on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port development project, the construction of highways, and the modernization of the Georgian Railway, which will significantly contribute to strengthening our country’s transport and logistics potential” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.
Within the framework of the Assembly, the Minister held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the UN International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez. Kvrivishvili Secretary General introduced to the ongoing reforms in Georgia’s maritime sector and discussed opportunities for future cooperation. Mariam Kvrivishvili also met with the heads of delegations of such important maritime countries as the People’s Republic of China, Turkey, Greece, Malta, Qatar, Cyprus, Singapore, and others.
“Within the framework of the meetings, we spoke about the deepening of existing cooperation between the countries, as well as relations and cooperation in trade-economic and transport directions. We are confident that as a result of the mentioned visit and meetings, we will have tangible results, within the framework of which we will even further deepen relations with our strategic partners to increase trade and economic cooperation between the countries, especially in the transport and logistics sectors” – the Minister noted.
Deputy Minister, Tamar Ioseliani and Deputy Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, Natia Miminoshvili also represented the Georgian delegation.
