Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, participated in the event for the signing of an agreement between the United Airports of Georgia and TAV Georgia, a member of the French Groupe ADP, according to which the company will continue operating until the end of 2031.
As Mariam Kvrivishvili noted during her speech, the signed agreement will mark a significant stage in the development of Tbilisi International Airport - the French ADP Group will invest approximately 150 million USD in the development of Tbilisi International Airport’s infrastructure.
“The aviation sector makes a special contribution to the development of our country’s transport and logistics, tourism, and economy. A distinguished priority of our government is to strengthen the said industry, develop aviation infrastructure, and ensure new direct flights. This agreement once again confirms the strategic choice of the Georgian state - for the development of civil aviation to be implemented based on a strong institutional framework, clear responsibilities, and reliable international partnership” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.
Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized that in 2025, a historical maximum was recorded in Georgia’s aviation sector in five key directions - in terms of airlines, direct destinations, flight frequencies, passenger flow, and tourist visits. Nowadays, 77 airlines perform flights to 125 direct destinations from all three international airports of the country.
“The increase in direct flights led to a historical result - all three international airports served 8,5 million passengers and more than 37000 flights. This represents a 14% increase in passenger flow and a 16% increase in flights compared to 2024. The development of the aviation sector is directly proportional to the sustainable and diversified development of the tourism sector - in 2025, we achieved unprecedented success in the tourism sector - our country hosted more than 5 million 500 thousand tourist visits” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
Mariam Kvrivishvili also focused on the importance of the further development of the civil aviation sector and noted that in this process, cooperation with the French state-owned company Groupe ADP under renewed terms will be fruitful for the development of both Tbilisi International Airport and the sector as a whole.
“The development of Georgia’s aviation sector is dynamic, sustainable and irreversibly growing. Exactly this circumstance is one of the prerequisites for why we made the decision to build the new, modern Vaziani airport. Until then, before the new airport begins operating from 2031, we will continue developing the aviation sector in cooperation with the French state-owned company and with the improved conditions reached with them” – Mariam Kvrivishvili explained.
As a result of the investment, the infrastructure of Tbilisi International Airport will develop significantly, the terminal capacity will double and exceed 10 million from the existing 5 million passengers. As a result of the update, the current number of 58 aircraft parking stands will be increase up to 65.
“Along with the improvement of the infrastructure, the state’s commercial terms have also improved - the United Airports of Georgia will receive three times more annual income from Tbilisi International Airport than today. Also, the United Airports of Georgia will receive an additional 25 million USD as an advance payment of the project value” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development summarized.
