Mariam Kvrivishvili Discussed Economic Cooperation Directions with the UN Resident Coordinator

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia, Didier Trebucq.

The parties discussed priority areas of cooperation, including inclusive economic growth, green energy, energy efficiency, digital transformation, transport, logistics, as well as sustainable tourism and education issues.

Particular attention was paid to the priorities provided by the UN Cooperation Framework. Prospects of even more effective relations with various agencies of the organization to accelerate economic growth in the country was given a special emphasis. Special focus was given to increased UN involvement in the development of the Middle Corridor and the country’s transport and logistical infrastructure in general. During the meeting, the Georgian side provided the UN Resident Coordinator detailed information regarding projects being implemented in the country for the development of both existing infrastructure and new opportunities. Special emphasis was placed on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the railway modernization project, the East-West Highway, etc.

The parties also discussed cooperation with the UN in the green energy sector. Development of new technologies in the field, including the production of green hydrogen, as well as the implementation of energy storage battery systems and other priority directions, in line with the  development of the Green Energy Transmission project, that will allow the South Caucasus power system will be connected to that of the EU via Georgia, which is strategically important for all parties involved in the project, were specially highlighted.

The meeting also covered prospects of deepening cooperation regarding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Deputy Ministers Genadi Arveladze and Tamar Ioseliani also attended the meeting.
