“Located at the crossroads of key regional corridors, Georgia has been continuously facilitating the secure transit of energy resources for many years. Today, when global and European energy systems are undergoing deep transformation, we are increasingly interested in clean energy development, electricity interconnectivity, and deeper integration with regional and European markets” – Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze stated in her speech at the international energy conference “Energy Week Black Sea 2026.” The international forum was held in the city of Bucharest, Romania.

Within the framework of the panel discussion, the Deputy Minister highlighted Georgia’s strategic role in ensuring the region’s energy security and clean energy development. She focused on the unique location of the Black Sea region as a space connecting Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Inga Pkhaladze reviewed the potential of Georgia’s energy sector and focused on renewable energy sources. According to her, Georgia is implementing projects to utilize hydropower, solar and wind resources, and increasing the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy balance is an energy policy priority.

Inga Pkhaladze spoke at length about the progress of the Black Sea submarine cable and “Green Energy Corridor” projects and their important role in terms of energy security not only for Georgia but also for Europe. She highlighted the regional importance of the Black Sea submarine cable project and confirmed Georgia’s readiness for cooperation with countries of the region, the European Union, and international partners. According to Inga Pkhaladze’s explanation, two projects are proceeding in parallel. In December 2025, the Black Sea submarine cable project was granted the status of a European Union Project of Mutual Interest (PMI).

Within the framework of the visit, the Deputy Minister held a meeting with the Romanian State Minister for Energy, Pavel-Casian Nițulescu, where the parties discussed the progress of the Black Sea submarine cable and “Green Energy Corridor” projects and future prospects for cooperation.

As part of the international forum held in Bucharest, Romania, the Deputy Minister attended the signing of a memorandum of bilateral cooperation between the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE) and the Romanian national electricity transmission company Transelectrica S.A., aimed at the development of the Black Sea submarine cable project.

The Chairman of the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, Davit Narmania and the Director General of Georgian State Electrosystem JSC, Vano Zardiashvili, also attended the energy forum from Georgia.
