Mariam Kvrivishvili and Ömer Bolat Discussed the Development of Trade and Economic Ties

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Turkish Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat discussed bilateral and regional economic cooperation. The meeting took place within the framework of the Georgia-Türkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Business Forum, which was held for the 7th time and attended by nearly 400 business representatives.

The ministers positively assessed bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, transport and logistics, tourism, energy, agriculture, and others.

The parties focused on cooperation in the field of trade. It was noted that Türkiye is one of Georgia’s largest trading partners - in 2025, Türkiye ranked first among the largest trading partners.

During the meeting, the parties discussed other priorities for economic cooperation, including the civil aviation sector. In 2025, the number of passengers transported by air increased by more than 14%. 

Additionally, after a long hiatus and through the direct involvement of the Georgian government including the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, the capitals of Georgia and Türkiye were connected by air. The ministers also focused on cooperation with TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi airports. The company is set to invest 150 million USD between 2027 and 2031 for the development of the capital’s existing international airport, aiming to help increase passenger flow to 10 million.

The ministers discussed major transport and infrastructure projects, the implementation of which will significantly increase the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and facilitate the attraction of additional cargo. They also highlighted the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project, which will officially become operational in the near future and make a significant contribution to strengthening connectivity in the region.

The ministers also touched upon cooperation regarding the land and sea transport.

Special attention was given to cooperation in the tourism sector: according to 2025 data, Türkiye ranks second among the countries from which the highest number of international visitors arrived in Georgia.

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development – Genadi Arveladze, Tamar Ioseliani and Irakli Nadareishvili, also participated in the meeting.
