Turkmenistan State Delegation Familiarizes with Georgia’s Port Infrastructure

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani hosted a delegation from Turkmenistan, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Nokerguly Atagulyev, showcasing the country’s maritime ports and adjacent logistical infrastructure.

The delegation observed the operations of APM Terminals Poti firsthand. Tamar Ioseliani and Nokerguly Atagulyev also visited the New Port of Poti, operated by the Pace Group. 

The delegation reviewed the infrastructure, existing capabilities, and capacities of various terminals.

Following Poti, the guests inspected construction works at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, where dredging operations are being carried out by the Belgian company Jan De Nul. Ioseliani provided the delegation with a detailed overview of the project’s specifics and future plans.

The Turkmen side expressed interest in developing warehouse and logistical infrastructure near Georgia’s active ports and exploring investment opportunities in this direction.

“We introduced the Turkmenistan state delegation to Georgia’s port infrastructure and its capabilities. We visited the existing and new ports of Poti, as well as the construction and mobilization site of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. The processes ongoing in the Middle Corridor are of great importance. In this context, Central Asia is a critically important partner and transit route, whose active involvement determines the efficiency and competitiveness of the corridor” – Tamar Ioseliani noted.

The delegation was hosted in Anaklia and Poti by the Deputy Minister alongside Ivane Abashidze, the Director of the Maritime Transport Agency; Zurab Sichinava, the Director of Anaklia Deep Sea Port LLC, and Lasha Abashidze, the CEO of Georgian Railway. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Turkmenistan, Konstantine Sabiashvili, also participated in the event.
