During the summer navigation season, airline Sky Express is adding a new direct destination to Georgia, operating flights between Tbilisi and Heraklion once a week. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani. She further explained that total flights between Georgia and Greece will reach 19 frequencies per week, facilitating increased passenger flow and tourism development between the two nations.

“In general, Greece and the EU are strategic and priority directions for us. It should be noted that in 2025, we saw record figures in both aviation and tourism. I would highlight the Greek direction, where last year we served approximately 300000 passengers, marking a 30% increase” – Tamar Ioseliani stated.

The Deputy Minister noted that passenger traffic statistics for European destinations are rising, and diversifying markets remains a key priority for the country.

“European and EU directions are vital for us. We saw a 16% increase here, serving more than two million passengers. Market diversification is very important. Following Northern Europe and Germany, Greece is another strategic EU direction where frequencies are increasing, and we expect very high figures in both tourism and passenger flow this year” – Ioseliani added.

Sky Express will begin operations on the Heraklion-Tbilisi-Heraklion route on July 6. The airline entered the Georgian aviation market in 2024 and currently operates regular flights on the Athens-Tbilisi-Athens route.

Currently, in addition to Sky Express, Aegean Airlines and Wizz Air also operate flights between Georgia and Greece.
