Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development inspected the launching of marine infrastructure works at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. Dredging of the port’s water area and the design and construction of the breakwater are being carried out by Jan De Nul N.V., a major Belgian company and member of the European “Big Four”. Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Irakli Chikovani accompanied Mariam Kvrivishvili at the Anaklia Port.

Mariam Kvrivishvili toured the port’s construction site, where mobilization and survey works have already been completed. Rock masses for construction and manufactured X-blocks, which will be used for the construction of the breakwater in the water area, have already been mobilized.

At this stage, a concrete plant is installed and operational on-site, inert material warehouses have been set up, and the casting of the protective X-blocks for the breakwater is actively underway.
At Anaklia, the seabed is to be dredged to a depth of 17,5 meters, and a 1380-meter-long breakwater is to be constructed. This will ensure the port’s accessibility and operational capacity at 95% on an annual basis. The project is proceeding according to the predefined schedule.

It is noteworthy that as a result of successful negotiations with the contractor, the budget for the marine works was reduced by approximately 52 million USD without affecting the project parameters, while the quality will remain compliant with international maritime practices.

It was noted that the construction of the access road and an 18-km railway line connecting to the port will begin in the near future. It was emphasized that these projects, in conjunction with the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, create a multimodal transport system and ensure a significant increase in the corridor's throughput and operational efficiency.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, the Director General of Georgian Railway, Lasha Abashidze, the Director of Anaklia Sea Port, Zurab Sichinava, and representatives of the local government also visited the construction site of the Anakia Deep Sea Prot.
