Current issues of cooperation and future plans in the energy field were discussed during a meeting between Mariam Kvrivishvili and representatives of the Asian Development Bank, held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
The working meeting, which included Jon-Hoo Hwang, Director of the Energy Division, Zehra Abbas, Director of the Social and Environmental Department and Lesley Bearman Lahm, ADB Country Director for Georgia, focused on the priority directions outlined in Georgia’s 10-Year Energy Development Strategy, including large-scale energy projects in hydropower.
The importance of large hydropower plants for achieving the country’s energy independence and the potential Georgia possesses in this regard was emphasized. It was noted that the Asian Development Bank is actively involved in various sectors of Georgia’s energy development, including the modernization and strengthening of the electricity transmission system as well as wind and hydro projects. The sides also spoke about ADB’s support aimed at stimulating private sector involvement in the energy sector.
Along with Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze and Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze also attended the meeting.
