Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, familiarized herself with the operations of the Piraeus Deep-Water Port in Athens and met with the management of its operating company, COSCO Shipping.

According to Tamar Ioseliani, the port is the largest link in the Mediterranean Sea in terms of trade and connectivity between Europe and Asia and therefore, it was productive to observe its operations on-site and share the experience of the operating company.

“We had a very important and productive meeting in Athens with COSCO Shipping, the operating company of the Piraeus Port. We heard from the company’s management regarding the development plans for the Piraeus Port, as well as the investments carried out in the said port since 2009. Piraeus Port is a deep-water port that represents a vital link in Europe, and in terms of trade and connectivity between Europe and Asia, connecting European and Asian cargo. Consequently, we can draw a parallel with the Anaklia Deep-Water Port, which represents a crucial strategic facility in the Black Sea for the development of trade between Europe and Asia, and for serving cargo flows in this direction,” – the Deputy Minister of Economy stated.

Tamar Ioseliani emphasizes the importance of such meetings so that the Georgian side can familiarize itself with modern trends in the global trade network and properly plan the development of the Anaklia Port. “Clearly, sharing the experience of international actors is of the utmost importance,” – Tamar Ioseliani noted.

The Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Greece, Levan Beridze, also attended the meeting.
