Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, alongside the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, participated in the event dedicated to the launch of the new investment project of the company Honeywell Cement. In her speech, the Minister discussed the role of the industrial sector in the country’s economic growth process and the importance of developing local production in this regard.
“Honeywell Cement, which has been one of the leading companies in the country’s construction sector for years, is moving to a new stage of development - expanding production, introducing modern technologies, and significantly increasing its capabilities. Its expansion means that production is growing in Georgia, industry is developing, and new economic opportunities are being created, generating more demand and, naturally, supply as well. Today, the development of a strong manufacturing and industrial sector is particularly important, as production, industry, and infrastructure projects form the main foundation for economic sustainability, new jobs, and the country’s competitiveness” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.
The total value of the new investment project of Honeywell Cement is 70 million USD, and it involves the construction of a modern technological line for clinker production and cement grinding. Within the scope of the project, annual clinker production will increase by 400000 tons, reaching a total of 2 million tons. In parallel, a new cement grinding line is being built, as a result of which annual cement production will reach 2,7 million tons. Both plants are scheduled to be commissioned from 2028.
As the Minister noted, the construction sector remains one of the main driving forces of the economy and in 2025, its share in GDP was 8%, while the value added generated in the sector reached 7,3 billion GEL.
“An investment of 70 million USD means that modern industrial production will be strengthened, technology will be upgraded, and production capacities will see a significant increase. Energy-efficient, modern technologies aligned with international standards will be introduced within the project, which will further enhance the quality and competitiveness of Georgian products” – Mariam Kvrivishvili commented.
The Minister also emphasized that the company currently employs up to 1200 people, and the investment project will create additional new jobs, including in contractor companies.
“I must particularly note the contribution and role of the investors, their trust in Georgia’s economy, business environment, and the positive prospects that exist in our country. Their trust realistically translates into the foundation for such significant initiatives” – Mariam Kvrivishvili said.
