Georgia’s maritime transport sector is demonstrating significant growth. During the January-April 2026 period, the total volume of cargo processed at Georgia’s seaports and terminals reached 5949115 tons, representing a 21% increase compared to the same period last year.
In parallel with the overall cargo flow, positive momentum was maintained in the container segment - the number of containers handled (TEU) during the reporting period showed an 8% increase. In January-April 2026, the volume of handled containers totaled 258583 TEU.
It should be noted that alongside the improvement in aggregate metrics, a positive trend was recorded across all of the country’s seaports.
By cargo categories, growth is observed across all major segments, indicating a comprehensive development of activity within the transit corridor. During the reporting period, ferry cargo volume increased by 34%, while general cargo figures showed a 33% rise. Furthermore, a 10% increase was recorded in containerized cargo (in tons), while bulk cargo volume was increased by 8%.
The data from the first four months of 2026 further reaffirms Georgia’s growing strategic role as a regional logistics hub in international shipping, highlighting the efficiency of local maritime infrastructure in receiving and processing increased cargo flows.
