Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Tamar Ioseliani, met with Wang Ping, the Vice Governor of Gansu Province of the People's Republic of China.

The parties discussed the existing strategic partnership between the two countries and focused on strengthening trade and economic relations, tourism and transport-logistic potential.

The conversation touched upon the growing dynamics of bilateral trade, which was driven by the Free Trade Agreement between the countries. It was noted that from the entry into force of the agreement through 2025, trade turnover with China increased 2,5 times. The parties positively assessed the amendment to the Free Trade Agreement, which will significantly increase Georgia’s export opportunities to China.

The parties placed special emphasis on the growth of tourist flows from China, which was facilitated by the visa-free regime in place between the countries. In this context, the expansion of air connectivity was particularly highlighted. Specifically, it was noted that starting July 15, China Eastern Airlines will operate direct flights on the Shanghai-Tbilisi-Shanghai route with a frequency of three times a week.

The Deputy Minister introduced current large-scale transport and infrastructure projects of Georgia to the Chinese side. Special attention was paid to the development of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, which is the main guarantee for increasing the country’s logistical capacity.

The parties also discussed in detail the role of the Middle Corridor and its efficient functioning, as well as deepening Georgia-China ties and increasing connectivity within this context. These initiatives ensure the management of cargo within the corridor based on a unified, simplified, and optimized principle, which significantly reduces transit time between Asia and Europe.
