“On behalf of the Government of Georgia, we express our sincere gratitude to BP for three decades of outstanding partnership and its contribution to the development of our country’s energy sector, as well as its overall progress,” –Inga Pkhaladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, stated in her speech at the event celebrating the 30th anniversary of BP’s operations in Georgia.
As the Deputy Minister noted, from the mid-1990s to the present day, BP has played a significant role in highlighting Georgia on the global energy map. According to Inga Pkhaladze, BP’s involvement was of decisive importance for Georgia's integration into major international energy corridors through the early development of the Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP), as well as the construction and commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline and the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP).
“These crucial projects have not only strengthened regional energy security but have also brought substantial economic benefits to Georgia - they have facilitated investment attraction, job creation, support for local businesses, infrastructure development along the pipeline routes, and the overall empowerment of local communities. The establishment of Georgia as a reliable and strategic transit hub is, to a large extent, the result of this successful partnership,” – Inga Pkhaladze noted.
The Deputy Minister further explained that along with the evolution of the global energy sector, Georgia remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance energy security, foster innovation, and facilitate the transition toward more sustainable energy future.
