Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, officially opened the Ambassador Aviation Village in Kachreti. The project aims to promote general aviation in Georgia, develop aviation tourism, and establish Kakheti as a new destination on the country’s aviation map.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mariam Kvrivishvili highlighted the rapid development of civil aviation in the country, noting that in 2025, Georgian airports served 8,5 million passengers, while in the first seven months of 2026, passenger traffic already exceeded 4,6 million.
According to the Minister, the state is actively implementing major infrastructure projects, including developments at the Tbilisi, Vaziani, Kutaisi, Telavi and Mestia airports, while initiatives from the private sector are a logical continuation of this process.
“The Government of Georgia is well-prepared for this growth, and we are constantly working to develop aviation infrastructure. As you know, we currently have a number of important infrastructure works underway. An investment of USD 150 million is being made in the expansion of the existing Tbilisi International Airport, allowing us to accommodate up to 10 million passengers.
We also have active ongoing construction at Kutaisi International Airport, where we are constructing a brand new 3,5-kilometer runway. Furthermore, we are preparing and actively working on the development of the new Vaziani International Airport.
Domestic aviation is equally important to us, and the Government of Georgia is taking significant steps to set up the necessary infrastructure and continue subsidizing domestic flights. This increases mobility between regions, simplifies travel for every one of our citizens, and simultaneously supports the development of the tourism industry. In addition, we have already announced two very important tenders – specifically for the construction of a new domestic airport in Kakheti, as well as a new terminal in Mestia, which will be a major step forward for domestic aviation development and the tourism sector as a whole.
What is happening today in Kachreti is a logical continuation of this process, where the private sector responds to the opportunities created by the state with its own initiatives and investments,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili stated in her speech.
The Minister noted that the development of general aviation in Georgia holds significant economic potential and the Ambassador Aviation Village serves as a clear proof of these opportunities.
“Short-distance aviation is important to us as well, as it encompasses private flights, air sports, aviation tourism and professional training. Georgia possesses great potential in this direction.
Furthermore, we can attract more foreign private pilots and aviation enthusiasts to Georgia, who travel, stay in various regions, and utilize local services. In this regard, we can confidently say that general aviation can make an exceptional contribution to the economic growth of specific regions.
The Ambassador Aviation Village in Kachreti is a prime example of developing this direction. It combines an airfield, air villas, and tourist leisure infrastructure in a single space. The project’s future plans, namely the creation of an aviation school and a flying club, are particularly important, as they will foster the development of professional knowledge and skills,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the total volume of investment in the project amounts to USD 15 million, of which GEL 10 million is a loan approved with the support of the Georgia Economic Development Corporation.
In her speech, the Minister expressed her gratitude to the project authors and investors for their contribution to the implementation of this project.
As part of the event, guests attended a specially organized airshow.
Ambassador Aviation Village is a unique, multi-profile aviation project that integrates runways and taxiways, a large hangar designed for 12 aircraft, a flight school, an air-villa residential complex and an aviation club into one space. The main runway infrastructure measures 1185 meters in length and 18 meters in width. The area also features a taxiway that connects to the main runway, providing direct access from the air villas to the airstrip.
