Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze addressed the participants at the opening ceremony of the 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation.

The Deputy Minister briefed the forum participants on current trends and development directions in Georgia’s energy sector. According to Inga Pkhaladze, energy transformation is no longer merely a set of technological changes – the rapid expansion of renewable energy, integration of electricity markets, energy storage systems, cybersecurity, climate change and artificial intelligence are creating a new technological, social and economic reality.

Inga Pkhaladze also emphasized the role of regulatory bodies in the energy sector and the importance of independent, professional regulation. She stated that genuine transformation in the sector is only possible when new capacities are connected to a strong grid, investments are tied to predictable rules, market development is bound to fair competition and energy policy aligns with consumer interests – none of which can be achieved without independent and professional regulation.

The Deputy Minister outlined Georgia’s strategic energy infrastructure projects to the forum participants, placing special emphasis on the Black Sea Submarine Cable. She noted that such projects represent a direct opportunity for Georgia to play a more active role in strengthening not only regional, but also European and international energy connectivity.

The 9th World Forum on Energy Regulation is being held in Tbilisi, organized by the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC). It brings together representatives from state entities, European and international energy unions, member associations and various energy organizations.
