Azerbaijan – Fourth Largest Trade Partner to Georgia in 2017

First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Dimitry Kumsishvili, within the framework of the visit to Azerbaijan, held a meeting with the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev. 

Main directions of economic cooperation between the two countries were discussed at the meeting and it was noted that despite the significant trade turnover between the countries, the potential for increase is very high and should be further developed. The Ministers also focused on the bilateral trade since in 2017, Azerbaijan became the fourth largest partner to Georgia. At the same time, export indicator was increased by 78% in 2017 compared to 2016.

In addition to bilateral relations, the parties have prioritized the cooperation in multilateral and regional formats.

Special emphasis was made on the projects involving Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Dimitry Kumsishvili and Shahin Mustafayev also talked about the signing of the agreement on recognition of the geographical names and the necessity to call for Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. In addition, the Georgian and Azerbaijan Ministers discussed a wide range of economic cooperation between the two countries.
